Here are a few of the popular social and competitive dances you’ll have the opportunity to master.

Foxtrot
Said to have started in 1913 by Harry Fox, it’s now a ballroom standard and a good foundation for social dances. This dance will teach you how to maneuver on the dance floor and can be adjusted to the available floor space and to a variety of music.
Foxtrot is a versatile dance that can be used in both a nightclub setting or a ballroom and adjusted to a variety of music.

Waltz
This elegant smooth dance will teach you balance, controlled movement, grace and poise. When a Waltz is playing, Waltz is the only dance that fits the music.  Romantic and flowing, the Waltz can be traced back over 400 years.  Today, the slow Waltz is the “American or English Waltz” and the faster tempo is the “Viennese Waltz”.

Tango
This dramatic dance teaches you to take long steps and makes you pay attention to the music in order to adjust to timing and phrase changes in the song. It is also the best dance to teach leading skills to men. “Continental”, “English” or “International Tango” is a structured, disciplined form of Tango which is recognized worldwide as the format for Dancesport events.  “Argentine Tango” was created by the Gauchos in Buenos Aires, in which the dancers interpret the music spontaneously without any predetermined slows or quicks.

Swing
This relaxed dance is the most popular of the rhythm dances, blending several African American dances (including Lindy, Ragtime Jazz and Blues) with other dance music from the past 90 years. Also a very versatile dance, it can be danced to many different tempos and styles of music. This dance helps develop quick footwork and a good connection between partners. Swing not only provides exercise, but is a great dance to show off the lady.

Rumba
This sensuous and romantic Latin dance can be danced to both Latin and contemporary music. This dance will teach you how to dance in a small space and helps you to develop your Cuban motion. Originally a marriage dance from Cuba, the Rumba was introduced in the U.S. around 1933.

Mambo
The fusion of Swing and Cuban music produced the rhythm for this dance, beginning around 1944. Earthy and expressive, the Mambo is danced in Latin clubs as well as in American style competitions. This dance will teach you musicality as it is danced in 2/4 time, with an emphasis on the 2 and 4 counts.

Cha Cha
Fun and flirtatious, this energetic Latin dance allows for personal styling and can be danced to Latin and contemporary music. It will help you to develop quick footwork and controlled movement. Actually extending from the Mambo, the Cha Cha was born of the fusion of progressive American and Latin music.

Salsa
This expressive dance is a must for Latin clubs. You will learn to move quickly and fluidly and will keep you in demand as a dance partner.

Hustle
Made famous in the ‘70’s, this functional dance is known for its many turns and spins, and provides great exercise as it is danced to fast tempo music.
The different timings in the music will teach you to adjust to various tempos.

Samba
This Brazilian dance was first introduced in 1917, later gaining popularity in the U.S. when introduced by Carmen Miranda in 1939.  Another energetic Latin dance, the Samba will increase flexibility and help tone your leg muscles. It will help you to develop easy movement and lightness in your dancing.

Merengue
This hot and sexy Latin club dance is not only the easiest dance but also holds a festive party appeal. This dance allows you to work on your Cuban motion, flexibility, and personal styling.

Dancing delivers cardiovascular benefits while toning muscle and improving balance and flexibility.
Professional athletes work dancing into their training schedules to sharpen their control, speed, coordination and agility.
Improved posture, body awareness and alignment, better stamina and lung capacity – all physical benefits you can experience from dancing.

  • Mind over matter

Moving to music, synching steps to the timing, matching your partner, dancing improves your mind-body connection and concentration.  You’ll let the stress of the day melt away as you experience the joys of dancing.

  • Fun and romance

Undeniably, dancing brings people together.
Men gain the confidence that they can recognize the music of a particular dance, lead a partner through steps and look good doing it!
Women can enjoy being asked to dance knowing that they’ve mastered the grace, styling and following skills.
